CV PAL – Jim Zoll Scholarship
Our scholarships cover the costs for completing an Associate Degree program, transfer program to a University, or a career technical program from Southwestern College.
The Chula Vista Police Activities League (PAL) is an organization composed of community leaders dedicated to improving the intellectual, physical, creative and social skills of the youth of Chula Vista. PAL does this by providing opportunities some youth may not otherwise have. Every year, Chula Vista Police Activities League awards one scholarship to Southwestern College.
Scholarship provides:
- New laptop and printer (chosen by PAL)
- Tuition/Registration fees for all courses associated with transfer, AA, or career technical program at Southwestern College*
- Cost of all books purchased through the Southwestern College bookstore
- Cost of all necessary supplies needed for courses purchased at the Southwestern College bookstore (i.e. scantrons, composition books, etc…)
- Bus pass if needed
*Recipients will have up to 3 years to complete transfer or AA program, and 18 months to complete career technical programs
Requirements Checklist
- You MUST be qualified (see list below)
- Complete the online application
- Attach official copy of high school transcript for the fall semester of your senior year
- Attach two (2) letters of recommendation for this scholarship, signed and dated this year (examples: teacher, counselor, advisor, administrator – NO RELATIVES)
- Attach Parent’s Income Tax return for year 2020 or 2021 with a recent pay stub.
- Statement documenting interest and need (500 words, typed)
Qualifications
- Live in Chula Vista or attend a high school within the Chula Vista city limits (*Includes CVLCC High School)
- Must be a graduate for the academic year 2021-2022
- Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better
- Demonstrate financial need
- Must be attending Southwestern College in the fall of 2022

Tips
Please take your time while filling out the application – make sure each question has either the requested information or let us know if the question does not apply to you. You’ll also need to upload PDFs of your transcripts, letters of recommendation, and parent’s tax return.
It’s a good idea to review and either print or write down the questions, then compose and proof everything on a separate document prior to completing the application! When you’re ready to apply, you can copy/paste your answers to make it fast and easy – then upload everything requested via our portal.
